The Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure appointed Dr. Victor Ukwenya as the pioneer Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS) effective August 2021. He is an alumnus of University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, He joined the services of the institution in 2016 as a Senior lecturer in the Department of Human Anatomy and rose to the rank of Associate Professor in 2019.
Ukwenya is a distinguished scholar of repute with over 51 articles published in reputable journals to his credit and is a member of professional bodies such as Anatomical Society of Nigeria (ASN) Society for Endocrinology, European Society of Endocrinologists (ESE) Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomist of Nigeria (SECAN, International Society of Neurochemistry (ISN).
Within the university, he has served as Acting Head of Department, Department of Human Anatomy, Chair, Academic Board, Chair, Curriculum Development Committee, Chair, Examination Committee, Chair, Appointment and Promotion Committee, Chair, DTLC Committee, Chair, Manual Committee, Member, Linkages/Advancement Committee, Member, Committee of Dean and HODs, School Representative, University Procurement Committee, Chair, SHHT 1ST Annual Lecture Committee, Member, Board of Examiners, Member, Appointment and Promotions Committee, Member, School Space Allocation Committee, Member, Senate, Member, Business Committee of Senate, Member, Senate TETFund Committee, Member, Senate Academic Planning Committee, Member, University Admissions Committee, Member, Sub-committee on Review of TETFund IBR Applications (Young Researcher Category), member, University Examination Misconduct and Disciplinary Committee.
Outside the university, he has served as Member (Representative of Dean, SHHT), FUTA - Akure Community Development Forum Delegation to the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aso Rock, Abuja, November 23-26th, 2017. Registration Area Collation Officer, 2018 Osun State Gubernatorial Election. Registration Area Collation Officer, 2019 General Election for Presidential, Federal and State House of Assembly, Ondo State.
Ukwenya has won several research grants and attended conferences within and outside the country and it is believed that his versatility, scholarship and dogged commitment to the core values of the university will greatly impact the School of Basic Medical Sciences.
